    How To Execute a Low Block in Soo Bahk Do

  1. Step 1

    Stand with your legs in a slight lunging position. Your right knee should be lined up with the middle of our foot while your left leg is stretched behind you with your left knee slightly bent and your foot flat on the ground. Your arms should be low and loose, almost dropping towards the ground.

  2. Step 2

    The intermediate step is designed to protect your body between preparation and execution of the block. While keeping the balls of your right foot on the ground, swing your left leg, hips and arm around almost 180 degrees. Your left arm should be drawn in close to your body as if you were performing a forehand table tennis swing without bending your elbow. At the end of this step your knees should be bent and almost touching each other while standing on the balls of your feet.

  3. Step 3

    Swing your left arm out like you were backhanding a tennis ball to hit just in front of your foot. At the end of the swing, your arm should be pointing downward at a 45 degree angle and ending in a fist. At the same time pull back your right arm and form a fist at belly button level. Your legs will basically switch positions from the first step, with your left knee bent over your toes and your right leg all the way stretched back with foot flat on the ground. If your technique is perfect, you will switch leg positions and end with your left fist ahead of your knee and your right fist at hip level at the same time.

Tips & Warnings
  • Practice low blocks in succession, first left, then right.
  • Let out a heavy breath as you end the block to emphasize full power and concentration in the technique.
