Want a fun activity to do with your kids? Try making these ice cream cone cupcakes. Kids are sure to get a kick out of baking, icing (and then, of course, eating) their very own creations. The recipe uses a box cake mix and packaged frosting, so there's very little measuring, mixing and stirring. Even very young children can handle most of the steps in this process.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 box of cake mix
  • 1 box of ice cream cups (not sugar cones)
  • 9-by-13 inch glass baking dish
  • 1 can of ready-made vanilla
  • Gumdrops and colored sprinkles
  1. Step 1

Prepare the cake mix batter as directed on the box, but leave batter in mixing bowl.

  2. Step 2

Arrange 9 to 12 ice cream cones in the glass baking dish.

  3. Step 3

Pour the batter into the ice cream cones, filling each 2/3 of the way full.

  4. Step 4

Bake in preheated oven according to directions on the box for cupcakes (usually about 20 to 23 minutes). Watch to make sure cupcakes don't burn.

  5. Step 5

Remove from oven, let cool and spread with icing. Top with gumdrops and colored sprinkles. Kids can bring these to lunch in a ziplock bag.

Tips & Warnings
  • Arrange the ice cream cone cupcakes in the center of a large platter and put a candle in each for a different type of birthday cake.
