How to Use a Self-Feeding Electric Weed Eater
-
1
Gather the materials needed. Ensure that the cartridge on the weed eater has a cord. If not, remove the cartridge from the bottom of the weed eater. Take the end of the weed eater twine and place it in the hole in the middle of the cartridge. Locate an arrow on the outside of the cartridge that says, “wind this way.” Make sure you wind in the direction of the arrow. The cartridge should have two (possibly three) "fins" that protrude from the bottom. These fins have slots to hold the twine while you are placing the cartridge back into the weed eater. Fill the cartridge and place the twine in one of the slots on the fins of the cartridge.

If your cartridge has two filaments that protrude from it, cut about 10 feet of twine. Pull the cut ends together so as to make a loop in the middle. Locate the arrow on the outside of the cartridge that says, “wind this way.” Place the twine loop in the slot provided on the cartridge and begin winding in the direction of the arrow. When you reach the end of your twine, place each end in an adjacent slot on the fins.

Place the cartridge back on the weed eater feeding the end(s) of your twine into the hole(s) so they protrude outside the weed eater cartridge casing. Push the cartridge down and make sure it either snaps back into place or the cap is screwed on tightly. Make sure it fits properly on the spring and post. Pull on the twine to make sure it is fully extended. Plug your extension cord into the power source and your weed eater into the extension cord.

Pull the trigger on the weed eater to operate it. During the process of weed eating, your twine will break from hitting obstacles such as concrete, fencing, etc. While the weed eater is still spinning, tap the ground with the bottom of the weed eater until you hear the twine hitting the cutter on the guard of the weed eater.

Continue in this manner until your twine runs out. Then refill the cartridge in the same manner as before.
