Maytag Blue Cheese

The Maytag Dairy is located in central Iowa, just a hop, skip and jump away from the Maytag appliance factory. The dairy has been creating creamy Maytag Blue Cheese for more than 75 years. Its founder, one of the Maytag appliance heirs, chose to make his mark on the culinary rather than the cleaning world. The result is a creamy rich blue cheese with a citrusy tang. Make this simple blue cheese dressing with Maytag cheese and serve over a wedge of iceberg lettuce with sliced beefsteak tomatoes. Does this Spark an idea?

  • 2 TBSP mayonnaise (real, not lite)
  • 4 oz crumbled Maytag blue cheese

Tips & Warnings

  • You can substitute other good quality blue cheese for Maytag; the flavor will still be good, but what gives this cheese the edge is its lemony undertones.

  • Try this salad dressing instead of mayonnaise to make cold pasta salad, by mixing 2 cups cold cooked pasta, 1/2 cup blue cheese dressing, 1/4 c. each chopped onion and celery, and salt and pepper to taste in large mixing bowl. Cover with plastic wrap, refrigerate for an hour to let flavors blend, and serve.

  • Also good as a dip for raw vegetables.

  • Refrigerate any unused portions promptly. Discard dressing if it's been sitting out at room temperature for more than an hour or so. Remember, this is not a "lite" dressing - a little goes a long way. If your guests are allergic to dairy or lactose intolerant, offer another salad dressing such as balsamic vinegar and oil on the side.
