Things You'll Need:
- Warm water
- Ammonia
- Cotton string mop
-
Step 1
Prevent your marble floors from getting dirty. Place large floor mats in front of the doors to catch any dirt or salt that you may track in. Salt is hazardous to your beautiful marble floors. It can cause pits into the marble so it is easier to prevent it all together.
-
Step 2
Wash your floors with a very damp cotton string mop to maintain cleanliness throughout your home. This will prevent dirt from penetrating into the marble. For grimy areas, mix in 0.005 percent of ammonia into the water. As always, test a small area first before wiping the grimy area completely.
-
Step 3
Get professional cleaning on a monthly or quarterly basis. This is the best marble floor maintenance as it can reduce your marble floors from deteriorating and can save you money in the future.
-
Step 4
Know that certain chemicals can stain your marble before you even see it. Marble floors can also be stained by iron, grease, oil, tobacco and bronze. If you have smaller stained areas you can call an experienced cleaning contractor to take care of. For large scale stains contact a conservator to handle it. Sometimes it is worth the cost of hiring a professional to avoid ruining your floors for lack of proper cleaning. This is one of those times.
