Things You'll Need:
- Engraved wedding invitations
- Thermography
- Embossing
-
Step 1
Engraving your wedding invitations is the most traditional form of wedding invitation printing. This is also one of the most expensive forms. Text is etched onto a copper plate, then it is coated with ink and wiped clean, leaving the ink only in the indentations. Soft, high-quality paper is then used and pressed hard against the plate the result is raised, high-quality text. A dent on the back of the paper is usually evident of true engravement.

Step 2
Using thermography is a less expensive way to engrave. The printer uses ink and a powder resin along with heat to produce the raised letter effect of engraving. The text usually has a shiny finish to it after its done. Thermography is not as sharp as engraving.

Step 3
You can use the embossing technique to create a raised impression on paper by putting the paper through two metal sheets. There are two types of embossing: embossing and blind embossing. In traditional embossing you use ink on the two metal sheets. Blind embossing is done in the absence of ink. If you don't want a printer to emboss for you, you could always get your own metal plates featuring your own monogram. This is a much cheaper way.
