Just because your family is growing does not mean that you have to eat all of your meals in your house. Treat yourself to dining out once in a while--Burger King doesn't count. Children of all ages can got to restaurants just like the rest of us. You just need to make sure that you are prepared for what may or may not happen during this adventure. The following tips will help you during this journey.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • Bag of toys, snacks and stickers
Step1
Make sure that you pick an appropriate dining atmosphere for your child. A local food court is a perfect first choice dining out experience. At times you will have to venture into the "real world," so it's a good idea to make a reservation if at all possible. You want to avoid any waiting time and get right to the table. If there is a long wait, take a walk outside, play "I spy," or even look at the menu so you are prepared to order. If you have a small child, make sure that the place you are eating at has highchairs.
Step2
Pack your bag of tricks before leaving the house. Make sure you have diapers and wipes for toddlers and a change of clothes for preschoolers. In addition, stickers, toy phones, crayons, a pacifier, small snacks, water cup and a lollipop doesn't hurt. You know your child best, so be prepared with his or her favorite items if they are needed.
Step3
Don't order for your children first. This is a common mistake that many people make. This will only complicate your eating time because your little ones will already be finished with their meals. Pull out a small snack, water cup, lolly, or ask for crackers. You want your child busy so you can enjoy your dining experience. Remember, this is your time out as well.
Step4
Always tell your children while dining out that if they are on their best behavior that you have a surprise for them at the end of the meal. Be it a sticker or treat, it's amazing what will make a youngster listen.

Tips & Warnings

  • You need to have an enormous amount of patience when dining out with little ones. Don't get discouraged if you first experience is a disaster.
