Usually, you think of animal crackers as those bland cookies in the cute little circus box. This recipe takes the kiddie treat to the next level. The savory crackers use wonton wrappers and cookie cutters to produce a snack that's all grown up and perfect for entertaining. Does this Spark an idea?

Things You'll Need

  • 1 package extra-large wonton wrappers
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp ground ginger
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 egg
  • Half and half or 2% milk, about 1/2 tsp
  • 1/4 cup mixed seeds (Hint: You can buy little bags of poppy seeds and sesame seeds in the produce section where herbs are sold for less than $1)
  • Cookie cutters (the smaller, the better)
  • Parchment paper

Instructions

    • 1

      Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and place the racks in the middle. Line a couple of baking sheets with parchment paper.

      In a small bowl combine the sugar, ginger and salt. In a separate bowl, whisk the egg and cream or milk together.

      Cut the wonton wrappers into various shapes using the cookie cutters. Brush the wontons with a thin glaze of the egg wash. Use a pastry brush or even a clean old paintbrush.

      Sprinkle each cracker with seeds, then sprinkle sugar mixture on top.

      Move the crackers into a single layer on the baking sheets and bake until the wontons are golden and crisp 5 to 8 minutes. Watch carefully, as they will burn easily.
