Have an outfit in mind or an event that you will be wearing the earrings to. Make sure they are appropriate for the function that you are attending. For instance, you can probably not get away wearing the same pair of earrings to a fancy wedding that you'd wear to work. Also keep in mind what you will be doing when wearing these earrings. If you are going to be at work and on the phone a lot, you do not want gigantic earrings.

Once you know what you need the earrings for, you're ready to shop. You may want to take a sample of the outfit you're wearing when you are going shopping so you can match the color and see if the earrings will look good. I often buy my earrings when I'm purchasing my outfit, this way I know that they will match.

It is a general rule that the longer your hair is, the bigger the hoop you can get away with. I disagree with this. I believe that some earrings can look good on anyone. Since each earring and woman is different, keep an open mind when shopping. I've seen women with short hair rock huge hoop earrings and they look amazing. Picture how your hair will be done for the night. If you are wearing it completely up, you might not need as big of hoops as you would if your hair was down and the earrings were partly hidden. If you have long hair, I'd suggest pulling your hair back a bit to show the earrings off. This will also stop your hair from getting tangled up in the hoops.

Wear your earrings with pride. Yes, the clothing may be the most important part of the outfit, but good earrings can turn your "great" outfit into a fashion masterpiece.

Once you are done with your earrings, I suggest hooking them together so you will not misplace one.
