Instructions

    • 1

Soak your ears in hot water mixed with table salt for 10 to 15 minutes at a time if the problem is on the outside of your ear. The hot water will reduce the pain, while the salt can draw out any infection.

    • 2

Use rubbing alcohol or hydrogen peroxide on the outside of the ear to help the healing. If you have an infection, this will scab over the area.

    • 3

Apply a topical cream onto the ear. You can obtain cream from a doctor or use an over-the-counter cream to numb the ear and help with any discomfort.

    • 4

Limit the amount of pain killers you use, including over the counter pain relievers such as aspirin. They thin your blood which increases your bleeding.

Tips & Warnings

  • Check with your doctor before trying any these steps. You may be damaging your ear more by ignoring the problem early on.

  • Be careful about using a cotton swab or anything else to clean out your ear, as this can increase the bleeding.

  • Bleeding ears are often a sign of internal trauma or a head injury. The first time you see any bleeding, call your doctor or visit the emergency room.
