Things You'll Need:
- Some luck, a good arm and some more luck.
-
Step 1
Hail Mary time. usually, teams like to send their receivers into the same area for the Hail Mary pass. However, it is an option. You can either have all of the receivers run to the same area of the end zone (and really make it a jump ball) or you could spread them out or have a decoy, etc. It's really up to you. But remember, the more receivers in an area, the greater the chances of catching a deflected pass.
-
Step 2
The receiver's job is simple: get down the field to their spot as fast as possible. It is important that they hustle and get to the end zone quickly so they will have time to set themselves up, turn, locate the pass and put themselves in the best possible position to make the unbelievable catch.
-
Step 3
The offensive line is incredibly important in the Hail Mary. Many times, defenses will drop some of their lineman back to help defend the pass, but what defensive lineman are left need to be blocked. Without blocking, the quarterback will not be able to throw the pass and there is no chance it will ever be caught.
-
Step 4
The quarterback has two jobs: buy time and throw an accurate, long pass. The time is mostly provided by the offensive line, but the quarterback should dance around in the backfield as necessary to buy time for his receivers to get down the field. They can go from side to side or whatever, but it is imperative that they do not throw the pass until their receivers are in position. Once it is time to make the pass, you just need to launch. The ball should be thrown all the way into the end zone and in the vicinity of the the receivers. Remember, the less they have to run toward the ball, the easier it will be for them to catch it.
