Things You'll Need:
- Internet access
- Email account
-
Step 1
Determine what type of opportunity you are interested in. There are so many ways of making money on the Internet. You need to look at each one carefully. Here is a few opportunities to choose from;
Home business
Work at home job (telecommute)
Affiliate programs
Writing or blogging
Selling on eBay
Paid To Read Emails
Paid Surveys -
Step 2
Think carefully and determine which opportunity in step 1 that you would like to pursue. After making your decision, you will need to start your search for work at home. A good start would be to search the Google search engine. Type in the keywords that you are looking for.
For example:
If you are searching for a work at home job (telecommute), you will need to type in the words work at home jobs, work at home, or telecommute jobs. If you are searching for a home business, then you would type the words work at home business or home business in Google. Same with affiliate programs and writing or blogging jobs, and so on. -
Step 3
Start joining message forums to search for your work at home opportunity. Think about what you're looking for before you join them. Make sure the forums you join cater to what you are specifically looking for. Some forums are just typical "work at home" while others are more specific. There are forums that are specifically job or telecommute, or perhaps cater to affiliate programs. Also there are forums for just home businesses. You will need to join each forum with the same username and password so that you won't forget it. Start reading and try to find out more information about the opportunity that you're looking for. Ask questions if you need to.
-
Step 4
If you are interested in a work at home (telecommute) job, there are many legitimate telecommute companies that hire people to successfully work from home. In addition to the message forums, you can find those specific telecommute companies at various job boards.
Here is a few to get you started:
Careerbuilder.com
Monster.com
Jobbank.com
You can also do a search for more job boards. -
Step 5
Watch out for the scam job sites that clutter the Internet. They are really very easy to spot. If you see an ad that promises you an X amount of dollars in a short time, stay away, these are scams. Remember this rule...never pay for a work at home job. There are a lot of data entry scam sites. Be very careful when searching for jobs.
-
Step 6
Sell products that you don't use or don't need anymore on eBay. A lot of people have made a significant amount of money from selling their goods. If you have anything that is just taking up space in your home and is not in use, give it a try and list them on eBay.
-
Step 7
Join some paid to read email or paid survey sites. There are many free ones to join. There are lots of scam sites to watch out for in this area as well. A basic good rule for paid to read or paid survey sites is...don't join ones that charge a fee. There are tons of free ones out there. Be selective and read all the fine print before joining.
-
Step 8
Search for writing or blogging jobs. If you like to write and are good at it, this may be a good fit for you. There are many freelance sites and forums for you to search at. There are also a few good sites that pay you per article written as well as the page views of these written articles.
Working from home has been rewarding for many people, young and old alike. The dream can turn into reality. Take that first step and decide what is right for you, and begin your search. Good luck to you!

on 10/22/2008 I have been taking surveys online for almost a year now and I have made thousands of dollars so far and counting. The key is to sign up for as many of the good ones as you can. The best ones are the sites that pay well and send surveys consistently. I have written a blog about this which includes links to some of the best paid survey sites I have found. You can check it out here: http://legitimatepaidsurveysitesforyou.blogspot.com

on 7/16/2008 I recommend using an escrow service, if you are taking projects off a site like Elance
Rentacoder requires escrow for all project
If picking up jobs off Craigslist, use a reader like

on 7/6/2008 Cool article
I use sites like Rentacoder, they take only escrow payments, so you are sure to get paid for your work
Also, I use a handy search tool to navigate searching many sites at once
