    Shop for lean cuts of red meat. Beef is high in iron, especially beef liver. However, try to stick to lean cuts. 97 percent fat free hamburger is a good option for teens and families dealing with iron-deficiency anemia. A three ounce serving of beef is going to provide between 3 and 3.2 Mg of iron.

  2. Step 2

    Save money with iron rich cuts of poultry. Chicken and turkey tend to be less expensive than beef and they also tend to be a healthier meat choice because they are lower in fat. Chicken liver is one of the best sources of iron around. A 3.5 ounce cooked chicken liver has about 12.8 Mg of iron, while the leg meat of chicken contains about 1.3 Mg of iron per 3.5 ounce serving. The dark meat of turkey has 2.3 Mg of iron per 3.5 ounce serving whereas the white meat only has about 1.6 Mg of iron.

    Buy lean cuts of pork to cure your anemia. Pork is another great source of iron. A three ounce serving of broiled pork loin contains about .8 Mg of iron.
