Using a chopper for onions and tomatoes can significantly cut down prep time for tasty dishes such as stir fry, homemade salsa, pizza toppings and more. The most important point to remember is safety. Choppers have extremely sharp blades. There are several kinds of choppers in a variety of price ranges available anywhere from Target to Williams-Sonoma. After selecting a chopper that feels comfortable for you, follow these steps for easy chopping.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Vegetable chopper
  • Kitchen knife
  • Onions
  • Tomatoes
  • Bowl for chopped vegetables
  1. Step 1

Prepare onions by cutting off the ends and removing peel. Prepare tomatoes by cutting off the ends.

  2. Step 2

Cut each onion and tomatoes in half. If the vegetables are large, cut into quarters.

  3. Step 3

Put one half or quarter into the chopper at one time.

  4. Step 4

Chop. The best method for chopping is a quick, firm motion. If you push slowly, you will smash the vegetables through the blade, which won’t produce the best results.

  5. Step 5

If you are using a chopper with a container, remove chopped vegetables and put into a bowl as the chopper container fills up.

Tips & Warnings
  • Chopper blades are very sharp. Use the chopper and clean with extreme care.
