Some students need a job while taking classes. It is doable, but it isn't always easy to find those jobs or know where to look.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Create a resume. You'll need a resume to start off. You'll probably need to fill out an application at different places, but having a resume ready can help speed things along.

  2. Step 2

Check the college website. Many colleges have their own job board. These include jobs at the college and employers that only want students from that college. You have a good chance of getting a job through the college itself.

  3. Step 3

Look at bulletin boards on campus. Many people will post odd jobs or even ongoing jobs around campus on the bulletin boards. Between classes, check them and note the ones that interest you.

  4. Step 4

Ask your friends. Sometimes a friend will already have a job and might know if their company is hiring. Your friend can even put in a good word for you.

  5. Step 5

Go to local stores/restaurants. It doesn't hurt to simply put in an application at locations nearby. Even if they're not hiring at the time, applications are stored for a certain amount of time.

  6. Step 6

See if a professor needs any research assistance. Because most professors are doing research of some kind, they probably need help with some of it. It could be researching online or in the library. They might even need help with field research.

  7. Step 7

Check online job boards. It will further your options to look at opportunities on job boards like Monster or Craigslist.

  8. Step 8

Read the local newspaper. Help wanted ads in the newspaper are a great way to find a job. Many college students don't check there and it raises your chances of getting the job.

Tips & Warnings
  • Only work 10 to 20 hours a week. It's not a lot, but it's enough to get by. If you have any more than that, you might get stretched thin.
  • Dress professionally when entering any desired workplace.
  • Make sure you have references and they all agreed to vouch for you.
  • Don't let your new job affect your school work.
  • There are several job scams that target college students. Be careful and don't be afraid to ask questions.
