It’s rush hour and you have just worked a full day at Chase Manhattan. Your suit is hot your body is sticky and your Manolos are killing your feet and you are tired and want to sit down on the train and not have to ride the subway standing up all the way from NYC to Queens, NY. Read on for how to get a seat even in rush hour!

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Knowledge of where you are in Manhattan such as uptown or downtown
  • The ability to read a subway map
  • A Metrocard to pay your subway fare
  • An extra 30 to 45 minutes to add to your commute to get to West 4th Street In Manhattan
  • Sneakers and tube socks to change into to help you climb the stairs at your final destination
  • Patience
Step1
Put on your sneakers and matching tube socks before you leave work about five minutes after quitting time.
Step2
Get on the subway and head north or south depending upon where you are in Manhattan at the time you are going towards West 4th Street in Manhattan.
Step3
Get off at West 4th Street and do not come up out of the subway but look up and read the signs to know which train to transfer to and in what direction to get where you are going for your final destination.
Step4
Take either the E train or the F train to Brooklyn or Queens and get off at your final destination.
Step5
Make sure you have a Vogue or an Elle or some other magazine to read as well as a bottle of water for the long trip home.
Step6
Arrive at your destination feeling refreshed and ready to climb all those stairs.

Tips & Warnings

  • Going to West 4th Street should do the trick, however if you miss your stop you can go to Jay Street and Borough Hall and do the same thing.
  • Watch the gap when you get off the train.

on 6/19/2008 When I was eight months pregnant, I would always stand in front of a man. I would wait to see if you would politely give a pregnant woman a seat. If he tried to act like he did not see me, I would just say sir, may I please sit down. Embarrassed they would always get up.
