The anguish of a teething baby can becoming very frustrating to you as the parent and to the baby who is teething. There is a very simple way to take care of this that will soothe the infant's pain as well as the fever that comes with teething.

From Quick Guide: Baby Teething
Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Ibuprofen
  • Wet washcloth
  1. Step 1

Babies may develop a fever when cutting teeth. If this happens, do not panic. It is completely normal and one of the easier things to deal with during parenthood.

  2. Step 2

Buy some infant ibuprofen (Motrin) drops. While Tylenol also works for fevers or pain when it comes to infants. Ibuprofen gets rid of the fever as well as the pain within 20 minutes.

  3. Step 3

Since infant ibuprofen comes with a dropper, the amount to give is 1/4 or .825 ML. Once the fever goes away, it is more than likely to stay gone. Repeat dosage only after 6 hours.

  4. Step 4

If you do not want to give the baby ibuprofen, your best bet is to wipe them down with a cool damp washcloth or give them a lukewarm bath until the fever breaks.

  5. Step 5

Give your baby a wet washcloth to chew on. This will allow them to cool their gums down as well as ease the sensation of the teeth coming through the gum.

Tips & Warnings
  • Giving the baby a toothbrush to chew on will help allow the teeth to break through faster.
  • You can even hold an ice pop inside their mouth, allowing them to cool down and numb the gums.
  • If the fever is over 101 degrees, this is not from teething. Bring the infant to the doctor for treatment.
  • Do not give your infant more than half a dropper full of ibuprofen.
  • Never give your infant any medication with aspirin.
