Okay so you are saying I know most of these tips in part 1. So here are a few more ideas that are not as known. Start saving gas during this tough times.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Understanding
  • Patience
  • Gas Card
Step1
It Only Takes A Minute...
When you go to warm your car up, even on cooler mornings, your engine only needs 30 seconds to 1 minute to warm up. Don't let your car idle for very long. The longer your car is idle the more gas is used.
Step2
We Don't Need To Race...
Sure, you're sitting at a red light, you look over at the person in the next car and they are ready to GO! Don't get tempted. Reving the engine and pushing the pedal to the floor wastes fuel and also precious money. You only need to push the pedal down about 1/4 of the total, this allows the carburetor function properly.
Step3
Slow Down...
45% more fuel is consumed when you travel fast in lower gears.
Step4
Roll'em Up!...
When you are traveling over 45mph keep your windows rolled up. Open windows reduce your mileage by 10%.
Step5
Forget The Dirt...
Dirt and gravel roads use up 30% more of your gas mileage. WOW that's a lot.
Step6
Cool It Down...
To lower or avoid transmission strain allow automatic transmissions to cool down. Place the gear into the neutral position when you will be at a standstill for a long time; like when waiting at a light.
Step7
Park It Forward...
If possible anytime you park the car pull-in so that when you leave again, you only have to drive forward. Reversing your car will take more gas than driving forward.
Step8
Don't Blow Air Too Much..
Using the air conditioners will reduce your fuel by 10 - 20%. The more you have in your car such as power windows, power seats, heater fans... The more weight your car has, so if you are going to get a new car avoid the upgrades for now, at least until times are better.
Step9
Oil Changes...
Just to be a little more specific when you change your oil, (whether you do it yourself or you have a company change it for you) make sure a graphite motor oil is used; beware of any oil additives; these do not help your engine.
Step10
Earn Your Money Back...
If you don't do anything else, at least get a gas card. These allow you to buy gas but also get your money back. You might as well get one as you will be spending the money on gas anyways. Why not have the companies pay you back.
