It is not uncommon for two people from rival colleges to get married. For example, there are numerous people at University of California (UCLA) who have married someone from University of Southern California (USC) and numerous people from Ohio State who have married someone from Michigan. One of the best ways to celebrate marriage and to have some fun is to create a wedding cake topper that truly represents the happy couple, college rivals or not.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • Two small plush mascots
  • One sewing kit
  • One small top hat
  • One small veil

Decorating a Rival Team Wedding Cake

Step1
Buy one small plush mascot that represents both the bride's and the groom's schools. The best ones to use are usually the small plush toys made for key chains.
Step2
Cut off any key chain that may be on the top of the plush toy.
Step3
Sew onto the top of the heads of the plush toys a top hat or a veil to represent the bride and groom. You can either fabricate your own top hat and veil or you can find these items by purchasing other dolls that may have these items pre-packaged.
Step4
Sew the legs of your plush toys so they are in a sitting position if they are not already. This will ensure that they will not fall off the top of the cake.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you need to cut anything off of your plush toy such as a key chain, make sure to place either the top hat or the veil in manner that will cover up any cuts or gashes you may made into the plush toy. Creating cuts or gashes may be impossible to avoid.
  • Make sure to tell the photographer to take some pictures of this unique idea.
  • It may also be a good idea to display a little commentary near the cake that explains why you chose these types of toppers. It can simply say that the bride was always a die-hard Michigan fan while the groom spent his childhood attending football games at Ohio State.
  • You should not attempt this if you are not experienced at sewing. Tailors or seamstresses will likely easily be able to take on this project.
