Long distance relationships can be difficult to manage, but that does not mean they are impossible. Being able to manage a long distance relationship may indicate that you are ready for a permanent relationship. Here are tips on how to have a long distance relationship.

Difficulty: Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Have regular contact times. When you are in a long distance relationship, it helps to have regular contact times so that you do not go for long periods without speaking to each other. Use modern forms of contact such as video chats and teleconferencing to seem like they are there with you.

  2. Step 2

Never fight on the phone. One of the most important keys to keeping a long distance relationship is to never, ever have an argument over the phone. If an argument seems like it is going in that direction, find a way to hang up peacefully.

  3. Step 3

Have a life outside of them your boyfriend or girlfriend. Just because you are in a long distance relationship, it does not mean that you should not have fun. Fill the time in between visits with hobbies, and activities that will make your life fulfilling and happy.

  4. Step 4

Be honest. Communication in a long distance relationship should be honest and truthful. Don’t be afraid to address issues in an effort to not rock the boat. Just be sure to say what is on your mind in a peaceful loving way. When and if it is time to end the relationship,, you should also be honest.

  5. Step 5

Visit regularly. Each person should take time to visit the other in a long distance relationship. Spend holidays together and get together at least one weekend a month to enjoy each other company and to grow the relationship.

Tips & Warnings
  • A long distance relationship does not have to be an unhappy thing.
  • Avoid infidelities

on 7/17/2008 I made this LDR survey/poll. It lets you compare your LDR with others. Includes questions about how many miles apart you are, phone calls, frequency of visits, and how many of us worry about our bf/gf cheating while we're away. Here's the link http://www.misterpoll.com/polls/347366
