Step 1
Brush and floss your teeth 2 to 3 times per day. Brushing your teeth each day can do more than just freshen your breath, it can also maintain healthy teeth. Fossing your teeth can get particles that are not reachable with a toothbrush. Not brushing your teeth can lead to an array of dental health problems including tooth decay, gingivitis, plaque and tartar build up, and even loss of teeth. It is recommended that you brush your teeth with toothpaste that is approved by the American Dental Association.

Step 2
Don't smoke cigarettes. Smoking cigarettes can cause serious health problems including heart disease and lung cancer. Did you know that smoking can also cause damage to your teeth? If you smoke, quit.

Step 3
Visit your dentist routinely. Sometimes brushing isn't enough. Over time tartar builds up on your teeth and they need to be cleaned. During a routine dental visit, your dentist will clean your teeth, treat them with fluoride, take x-rays and talk with you about your current dental health. It is recommended that you see your dental professional once to twice yearly. Your dentist may request more visits depending on the health of your teeth.
