How to use curves to correct digital camera photos

When working with digital camera images, color casts can affect the outcome. Use the curves adjustment in Photoshop and you can make a huge difference in the final edition of the photo.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

• Photoshop CS3
• any digital photo

1. Open up your photo in Photoshop CS3
2. Click on Image: adjustment: curves
3. Notice at the left hand side at the bottom of the pop up window for the "curves" menu, there are three eye droppers.
4. Click on the first eye dropper and select a portion of the picture that is the DARKEST with the eye dropper
5. Click on the far right eye dropper and click on a portion of the image that is the WHITEST
6. Lastly, click on the center eye dropper and click on the portion of the image that is most close to a neutral grey
7. Click OK and VOILA, your image is correctly adjusted for the color!

Tips & Warnings

• It is important that you click on the eye droppers in the order suggested
• be careful to try to get the eye dropper selection as close to pure black and pure white as possible and to adjust the image with the eye droppers in the order suggested.
