Cleaning seashells is very easy to do as you only need a few household items. Once clean, you can use seashells for arts and crafts or as a decoration for your home.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Bowl
  • Warm water
  • Dish soap
  • Two towels
  • Seashells
  1. Step 1

Place seashells in a large bowl.

  2. Step 2

Add one tablespoon of dish soap to the bowl.

  3. Step 3

Gently pour in warm water into the bowl. Make sure the water is being poured directly on the soap to spread the soap throughout the bowl.

  4. Step 4

Let the seashells sit in the soap and water for 20 minutes.

  5. Step 5

Lay out a towel on a flat surface.

  6. Step 6

Remove the seashells from the bowl and wipe them off gently with a second towel. Pay special attention to the inside of the shells, as they may contain sea creature remnants and debris.

  7. Step 7

Place clean seashells on the towel you laid out. This will allow the seashells to air dry. Leave the seashells on the towel for 30 minutes.

Tips & Warnings
  • A toothbrush can also be very helpful as it can get between the nooks and crevices of the seashells.
  • Always be gentle with seashells as they can break easily. When arranging seashells in the cleaning bowl, place the heaviest and most sturdy seashells at the bottom of the bowl and the lightest and most delicate ones on top. This will prevent breakage from the extra weight or pressure of the other shells. If necessary, divide the shells in half and repeat the process twice if you have a large quantity of shells.
