Learn a few things you can do to stay healthy after age 40 and make these years the best you've ever had.

From Quick Guide: Preventing Cancer
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Get a colonoscopy every 5 to 10 years. Colon cancer affects thousands of adults over 40 every year. Colon cancer is classified by the American Cancer Society as one of the most preventable cancers in North America. When you reach the age of 40, it is recommended that you get a colonoscopy and get one every 5 to 10 years after your 40th birthday.

  2. Step 2

Develop a diet and exercise routine and stick to it. Key to maintaining good health at any age is exercising and dieting every day. Due to the nature of aging, when adults get older, they are in need of more nutrition than a younger person. People over 40 are recommended ask their doctors about creating a diet and exercise program tailored to the requirements of their health, lifestyle and schedule.

  3. Step 3

Consider taking a multivitamin every day. While eating healthy and exercising everyday are good, sometimes it's not enough. To ensure that you are getting the recommended amount of vitamins and minerals needed for people over forty, you may consider a multivitamin regimen. Before beginning a drug regimen of any kind, you are advised to consult with your doctor first. Most multivitamins have not be testes by the Food and Drug Administration; therefore, these supplements have not been tested in patients with liver, kidney or heart disease.

Tips & Warnings
  • While maintaining good health is essential at any landmark of life, when you get to be 40 years or older you need to start taking even better care of ourselves.
