No matter how bad your credit is, you can still get a credit card and begin to repair/rebuild your credit.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A new perspective
  • Money
  • Self control
  • Determination
  1. Step 1
    Credit Options

If you don't already have a bank account...get one. Having a bank account can help improve your credit status. The longer you have the account the better. Request an application for a secured credit card. Your credit card limit will be equal to the amount of your security deposit, which is between $300 to $5000. If you only can invest $300, that's fine. You can always add to the account to increase your credit limit.

  2. Step 2
    Credit offers

Get at least two secured cards. The higher the deposits the better. Some of the best credit offers can be found online.

  3. Step 3
    Unsecured credit
    Unsecured credit

Use the cards. They won't help your credit if you don't use them. Pay a bill with them and pay the balance before the due date. Eventually you will start to receive dozens of offers in the mail.

Tips & Warnings
  • Never leave a balance that is greater than 30% of your credit limit. It will hurt your credit rating.
  • After 12 months of good payment history, your cards will be converted to unsecured and your deposit returned. Now you will begin to receive offers for unsecured cards, equal to the amount of the credit cards you already have.
  • Use your credit cards wisely, it's easy to fall into debt if you are not watchful.
  • Never pay late.
  • Never go over the limit.
  • Have a maximum of 3 credit cards.
  • Use them for emergencies only.
  • Read the fine print. Don't choose cards with high interest rates and annual fees.
