This is how to make the best Grilled Cheese Sandwich in all of Grilled Cheese Sandwich History. These are not just my words. My daughters and my granddaughter beg for them.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • A George Foreman Grill is nice but not a necessity - a good skillet will work as well but you won't get those pretty grill marks
  • Lots of bacon
  • Colby, Cheddar, Co-Jack, or other cheese of your choice
  • Sliced tomatoes
  • Sliced and lightly grilled in butter onions
  • Texas Toast
  • Butter or Margarine
Step1
Ramekins Ready For Recipe Assemble all ingredients. It is so much easier to cook anything if you have everything you need in front of you before you start. ~ Don't you just love it when Martha Stewart has all of her ingredients set out in those cute little white ramekins?
Step2
Oven Cooked Bacon Prepare your bacon. You can pan fry it, but if you preheat the oven to 350 degrees, cut the bacon in half, place the strips on a cookie sheet, and put in the oven for 20-30 minutes (depending on how crisp you want your bacon), turn it once during the baking, it comes out really flat and Oh, So Good! If you have done this, you don't have to cook your bacon because you could have cooked it yesterday and just have gotten it out when you assembled your ingredients! Drain bacon on paper towels if you have just fried it.
Step3
Browned Onions Add some butter to a skillet and set it on medium heat for melting while you are slicing the onion. When the onion is sliced and the butter has melted, put the onion in the skillet and let it get a bit tender and browned on both sides. Carefully remove from skillet and place on paper towels to drain off some of the butter (if you choose).
Step4
Sliced Tomatoes For each sandwich you are making, butter the outside pieces of Texas Toast and slice your tomatoes and cheese (if it needs sliced)
Step5
George Foreman Grill Either get griddle on the burner and start gently warming it up, or get your George Foreman Grill out and get it warming.
Step6
See The Pretty Grill Marks! 1. Place cheese on first unbuttered side of Texas Toast
2. Place onion on top of cheese
3. Place tomato on top of onion
4. Place bacon on top of onion (you have kept the wet ingredients away
from the bread this way
5. Place the other unbuttered side of the Texas Toast on top of the
bacon
6. Place into George Foreman grill and give it just a few minutes to
let the cheese melt and the grill to make the marks on the bread, OR
7. On a medium to medium high burner place the sandwich into a skillet.
You can peek at it after a few minutes to see how well it is
browning. When it looks the color you like, turn it over with a
spatula and do the same with the other side.
Step7
Some Other Sandwich with Pickle and Chips Add a pickle and chips and totally enjoy!

Tips & Warnings

  • This sandwich is not nearly as good if you use regular bread.
  • I must warn you that this sandwich is totally addictive and that as of this point there has been no 12-Step Program devised for it. Make and Eat at your own risk!
