Mexican tile is an essential in a Southwestern home. It is also becoming more and more popular nationwide. The only issue is the maintenance and upkeep. Yes, you will see paw marks after your dog walks across the floor, and dust and dirt accumulate quickly. But with the right tools and refinishing tactics, you can have sparkly tile floors that will last a lifetime.

Lay new tiles in the vacant spaces. It is okay to mix and match. All tiles do not need to be exactly the same.

  3. Step 3

Prepare the grout by following the directions on the label. Sealing offers greater water and mildew resistance.

  4. Step 4

Seal all tiles, new and old. Use a foam brush. Remove excess grout immediately with a damp cloth.

  5. Step 5

Finish with a top sealer similar to that used on hardwood floors. This will give a shiny, clean finish.

Tips & Warnings
  • Always strictly follow manufacturer's instructions so that you get the best results.
  • When tile is used indoors, it's almost always finished with a top sealer similar to that used on hardwood floors.
  • Remove any excess grout IMMEDIATELY from the tile. It dries quickly, forming a haze on the tile that is about impossible to remove.

on 9/19/2008 a good way to remove grout haze is to use what is called a grout rag. you can buy these at home depot, and you should wipe the whole area about 3 times. it gets rid a great deal of grout haze
