How to Make a Chocolate Cream Pie

  1. Step 1

Open the pie shell you have chosen.

  2. Step 2

In a medium sized mixing bowl, put one-half package of the cream cheese of your choice. Add two tablespoons of Splenda or other sugar substitute and one-quarter cup of the Cool Whip of your choice.

  3. Step 3

Mix the cream cheese mixture until it is very smooth and creamy. It needs to be of spreading consistency. If necessary, add a little more Cool Whip to achieve that consistency.

  4. Step 4

Spread the cream cheese mixture into the bottom of your chosen pie shell. Set aside.

  5. Step 5

After washing the bowl, pour in the pudding flavor of your choice and one and one-half cups of milk. Whip the mixture until it is smooth and it begins to thicken.

  6. Step 6

Pour the pudding mixture on top of the cream cheese in the pie shell. Let the mixture begin to harden further. It needs to be fairly well set before adding the Cool Whip topping.

  7. Step 7

Once the pie is firm enough, coat the top with Cool Whip.

  8. Step 8

If desired, top off with a sprinkling of pecan pieces, chocolate sprinkles, or dark chocolate curls. Those watching their calories will want to avoid this option.

  9. Step 9

Chill in the refrigerator until ready to serve.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make the pie with other instant pudding flavors such as butterscotch, banana, or pistachio using the graham cracker crust option.
  • Layer several flavors together like vanilla, chocolate, and pistachio for a rainbow flavor pie.
  • Try different types of Cool Whip like chocolate or strawberry on top of your pudding mixture.
  • Come up with your own toppings like other types of nuts, colorful sprinkles, or candy toppings.
  • Be careful not to make the cream cheese mixture too thin or it will run into the pudding mixture.
  • Do not just follow the directions on the pudding box to mix the pudding or it will be too thin for the pie.
  • Do not try putting the Cool Whip on top of the pudding layer until the pudding is firm or the results will not be positive.
