Burning incense can bring a nice touch of romance and aromatherapy to your space.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Incense
  • Proper burner
  • Sand
  1. Step 1

Choose the type of incense you want to work with. Generally, you can buy incense in cones, on sticks and in loose form, though loose incense is less common. For this article, we'll stick to either cone incense or stick incense. Incense comes in a variety of different fragrances. Some you may use to rejuvenate, some may be used to calm. All lend a romantic flair to your space.

  2. Step 2

Choose a burner made for cone incense. Be sure it is made out of something that will absorb the heat, as cone incense burns completely. Many burners for cone incense have lids, and you can use a lid if you want to, although it is not necessary.

  3. Step 3

Stick incense is probably the most popular type of incense and can be found in a variety of places from grocery stores to specialty shops. The most common type of burner for stick incense made of wood and is shaped like a boat. There is a small hole at one end to hold the stick and the ashes from the stick fall to the bottom of the boat. Stick incense can also be burned in a heat resistant container of some type if you put something inside to hold the stick upright, such as sand.

  4. Step 4

Light your stick or your cone so that it begins to hold a small flame. Then blow the flame out. Now your incense will burn and will give off its aroma. It's that easy!

  5. Step 5

To put out your incense or to stop it from burning, simply dip your stick into some sand. Likewise, if you are using a cone, simply turn it over and put it out in a small container of sand.

Tips & Warnings
  • Experiment with different types of incense until you find your favorite. Try different aromas to suit different moods.
  • Never leave burning incense unattended!
  • Always burn incense in an open area away from other objects.
