This will give you some quick insight into picking the best pilates workout videos for your home workouts.

From Quick Guide: Pilates for Everyone
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Comfortable clothing that is not baggy
  • Mat
  • DVD or VCR
  • Balance ball
  • Elastic bands
  1. Step 1

If at all possible, try to pick a video on DVD format rather than VHS. There are still a few VHS versions out there, so be careful. The DVD allows you to go directly to specific chapters instantly, or backwards in case you missed something or need to see it again.

  2. Step 2

Make sure you have the right equipment that the video calls for. You don't want to get home and discover you need a balance ball and elastic bands--and they weren't included in your kit. Some videos will come with needed gear, but others do not. Read the package carefully.

  3. Step 3

Wear snug clothing. You don't want a shirt tail getting in your way, and you don't want your shorts bunching up as you wriggle all over the mat! Make sure your outfit isn't loose.

  4. Step 4

Start off with the basic exercises. You can always work your way up to the advanced levels, but always start on the beginner level to ensure that you understand the fundamentals.

  5. Step 5

Don't worry about extra equipment just yet. Pilates accessories are becoming extremely popular these days, but all you really need to start is a floor mat. Decide if you like the routines, and then incorporate more equipment as you become more accomplished with the exercises.

  6. Step 6

Stick with it. The instructor in the video will undoubtably have been training for years, so don't worry if you can't keep up or aren't "getting it" right away. Keep at it and you'll enjoy it and the results of your efforts!

Tips & Warnings
  • Wear snug fitting clothing.
  • Start off slow.
  • Be patient!
  • Make sure that you have the right equipment for each specific video.
  • Don't try advanced routines until you can maintain proper form, because you could hurt yourself!
