How to Win in Solitaire
Winning in solitaire is possible if you know what you are doing and luck is on your side. Learning the lingo of the game will help you on your way to success. The "foundation" is the four stacks of card suits that you build from ace through king across the top of the game. The "columns" are the seven working areas of the game that you build from king down to ace, while the "stockpile" is the leftover stack of working cards -- every third one is revealed as you play.
Instructions
-
-
1
Don't touch the stockpile right away after the cards are dealt. Instead, move any aces showing in the seven columns up to one of the four foundations.
-
2
Continue building on the four foundations if possible. You will not likely build much at this early stage, but do what you can.
-
-
3
Work with the columns for as long as possible before touching the stockpile of cards, as it is a little harder to uncover cards buried in the column than cards in the stockpile.
-
4
Make a priority of unveiling cards in both the columns and the stockpile, rather than just building the columns downward.
-
5
Focus on clearing up column space for high-value cards. Higher value cards -- such as kings, queens and jacks -- are harder to find empty column spaces for than lower value cards. Get them out of the way, and build downward in the columns from these.
-
6
Build on the foundations when faced with a choice between adding to the foundations and building on the columns. You can always move cards back down into the columns if necessary, but it is more difficult to unearth cards in columns.
-
7
Keep your options open. Don't box yourself in by neglecting to reveal cards still buried underneath the columns. Always reveal.
