How to Fix Weaving Mistakes

If you are weaving, it is easy to mix up where the individual pieces of yarn go as you are moving along. If you notice a mistake, you will want to fix it in order to keep your entire work together and to create a better looking project. Don't panic—just follow these steps.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Notice where the mistake is. You will want to look at both the warp and the weft of the loom in order to fix the mistake. The warp will be moving up and down and the weft is what you will be weaving into the warp by moving across. Usually, a mistake will be indicated by a skipped piece of yarn from the warp or will make an incomplete pattern from the yarn that is going across.
Step2
Undo what is done. As long as your project isn't off the loom yet, it is easy to fix. All you have to do is back track to the place where the warp yarn was skipped. You will want to take out the weft yarn up until the space where the skip occurs.
Step3
Start over again. From here, you can re-build what you have done by going over and under with the pattern that you are using for the weft. Now, you will have the ability and the control to fix the mistake and to make your piece complete.
Step4
If you have a weft piece that is skipped from the row before, you can just as easily pull out the yarn and re-do this as well. You will need to take out all of the yarn from the layers and rows you have done until you get to the point of the mistake so that you can re-do the skip.

Tips & Warnings

  • Always check your rows. If you want to make it easier to fix the mistakes, check before you move on. It is easy to mix up the warp and the over-under pattern when you are doing it by hand. Because of this, you will want to make sure everything is lined up before you continue so that you don't have to take it out again.
