Things You'll Need:
- Phillips screwdriver
- 95% Ethanol
- Lubricant that is safe for electronics (e.g., WD-40)
- Cotton swabs
-
Step 1
Make sure the player is empty, and either disconnect the power cord from the unit or unplug it from the wall socket.
-
Step 2
Locate the screws that are holding the unit together and carefully remove them with a Phillips-head screwdriver. Once the screws and cover are removed, they can be set aside.
-
Step 3
Apply a small amount of your lubricant to a cotton swab and gently grease the movable parts inside the CD player; primarily, the rails that the CD laser moves on. This should be done gently and carefully. Excessive force or scrubbing action is unnecessary.
-
Step 4
Take a new cotton swab and moisten it with ethanol.
-
Step 5
Locate the lens of the CD player and gently clean it with the cotton swab moistened in ethanol. A few swipes across the surface of the lens are sufficient.
-
Step 6
Allow any ethanol left on the CD-player lens after cleaning to evaporate.
-
Step 7
Reaffix the cover and secure it back to the chassis of the CD player by tightening the screws back into place using a screwdriver.
-
Step 8
Reattach the power cord or plug the unit back into the wall. Turn the CD player on without a CD inside to allow it to self-check and reorient the laser.
-
Step 9
After a few seconds, your CD player will be ready to play.
