    How to Use iGoogle

  1. Step 1

The first step in using iGoogle is to set up a Google mail (Gmail) email account. If you already have one you can skip this step. If you don’t have one you will need to go to www.gmail.com. It will take only a few minutes to set up the account. Then you can start taking advantage of the cool features Google offers account holders

  2. Step 2

Once you have registered for a Gmail account you can continue on to iGoogle. If this is your first encounter with Gmail or iGoogle then you will need to set up your iGoogle homepage. If you are logged into your Gmail email account you can click on the web link near the top left side of the page to start using iGoogle.

  3. Step 3

You will then be taken to the iGoogle page. Here you will see the option in the center of the screen saying “create your homepage in under 30 seconds”. You will first need to select your interests then click “see your page”. Your iGoogle page will appear.

  4. Step 4

Now it’s time to customize your homepage with the things you enjoy. He first part of the customization is to select a theme. The “select a theme” tab is located on the right side of the iGoogle page. Choose from the thousands of themes to make your iGoogle page fit your likes. Most of the themes can be previewed and once you find one you like select “add it now.”

  5. Step 5

The next step in customizing your iGoogle page is to add tabs. You will see the “Add tabs” section at the top of the page under the theme picture. You can add tabs based on your interest. For instance if you like music type music in the first tab. You will then be asked if you want Google to use the “I feel lucky option” and pick things for you or if you want to add your own “stuff” to the section. It’s entirely up to you

  6. Step 6

The final step in setting up your iGoogle customization is to “add stuff”. This tab is located just right of the “select themes” tab used in step 4. You can choose to get news updates from your favorite sites, add games, RSS feeds, cool applications like calendars and countdowns. You can choose which tab your “stuff” will be placed in so all of your music stuff is in one place and all your news stuff is grouped together.

Tips & Warnings
  • You do not have to have a Gmail account though if you don’t then every time you leave the iGoogle page your information will be lost.
