You know you washed them, you remembered to put the fabric softener in the dryer and they look clean, but the clothes you laundered with care have an unbearable odor. It’s mildew, bacteria that grows with warmth and humidity and weakens the fiber of your clothes.Here’s how to get rid of it.

How To Remove Mildew Stains From Fabric

Step1
Mix 1 part rubbing alcohol with 1 part water. (As long as you use equal amounts of both ingredients, you can mix as much or as little as you need for the amount of fabric you want to clean.
Step2
In a sink, tub, or bowl (depending upon the amount of solution you’ve mixed and the number of items you want to clean), soak the mildewed clothing, completely immersing it in the mixture.
Step3
Let sit for two to four hours.
Step4
Remove clothing from solution, wring dry and smell. If the mildew smell has decreased but is not completely gone, put the fabric back into the solution for a longer period of time.
Step5
Once the mildew smell has successfully been removed, follow up with a cycle in the wash to remove the alcohol from the clothing.
