Instructions

    • 1

Wash clothes promptly. Don’t let dirty items sit around in the hamper for weeks. Clean clothes are much less likely to smell like mildew than soiled clothes.

    • 2

Keep clothing dry. Never let damp or soiled clothing lie around. If you’re not going to wash them immediately, at least dry them before tossing them into the hamper.

    • 3

Sprinkle clothes with water or other ironing solution when preparing to iron; only dampen as many articles as can be ironed in one session. Shake out and dry those not ironed.

    • 4

Treat jackets and other outerwear with water-repellent sprays to keep the moisture that helps mold grow off of them.

We had this problem this summer because of the humidity! We solved it by (like you said) washing everything right away and not letting dirty clothes sit in the bathroom hamper. That seemed to solve it! I was surprised to come across your article because I didn't think this was that common of a problem.
