How to Fix Files on a Computer

The purpose of fixing files on your computer is to get back any vital information that may be damaged or missing. This can happen if someone were to hack your files, or you downloaded a corrupt file. To fix your files, you must do a system restore and revert to a time before your files were corrupted.

      Click on the "Start" button in the bottom left corner of your desktop. In Vista and XP, click on "All Programs." Once inside the submenu, click on "Accessories" and then click on "System Tools." Under this menu, you'll find many options, so click on "System Restore." This will start the restore process.

      A new window will appear in Vista to ask your permission to move on. Click on "Continue" to proceed. For Vista and XP computers, a new window will appear and "Restore System Files and Settings" will appear at the top. Click the bubble next to "Different Restore Point."

      Click "Next" for a calendar of dates to choose from. Click on the most recent date on which you know your files were good and hit "Next." This will finish your restore point. Restart your computer to implement the change.

      Close any programs you have running and hit the "Finish" button. The screen goes back to your desktop for a second, and you have no control over your system.

      Now that your restore has completed, your computer will automatically restart to make the changes permanent. You just fixed all the files on your computer.
