Aprons aren't just for grandma to wear anymore. They're definitely a boho fashion statement, especially when you can make your own shabby-chic version out of a dishtowel and some fabric odds and ends.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 colorful terrycloth dishtowel
  • Ribbon (about 36") for ties
  • Ribbon (about 16") for embellishing front pocket and top
  • 1 piece contrasting fabric, about 8" square
  • Sewing machine or needle and thread
  1. Step 1

Lay a clean dishtowel flat on your work table.

  2. Step 2

Iron the fabric piece, if needed and hem sides and bottom on sewing machine to make a pocket big enough to slip your hand into (about 4" across and 6" down).

  3. Step 3

Position the pocket onto apron front on either side. Pin it to the fabric. Either machine or hand stitch the pocket onto the apron.

Choose a contrasting color ribbon for tie. Pin the ribbon onto the front of apron, making sure that an equal amount of ribbon (about 12") hangs down from both sides. Sew it onto the front of the apron by hand or with a machine.

  5. Step 5

Finish by embellishing the top front of the apron and sides of the pocket with ribbon, if desired.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you don't have extra fabric around, washcloths or dishcloths make nice pockets, too.
