How to Bake Instead of Fry Meats

If you want to eat healthier when cooking meat, opt for baking instead of frying and get started toward a grease-free lifestyle!

Things You'll Need:

  • Meat of choice (fresh meat,thawed)
  • Baking dish (glass is best)
  • Seasonings of choice
  • Pan spray (canola, or olive oil)
  • Fresh vegetables chopped, or sliced (optional)

    Getting Started

  1. Step 1

    Heat the oven to 350 degrees.

  2. Step 2

    Wash the meat thoroughly.

  3. Step 3

    Place the meat in a bowl and season to your liking. You can use similar seasonings that you used when frying, however do not coat the meat. For example, if you coat your chicken with flour when frying, don't do this when baking the meat.

  4. Step 4

    Spray a baking dish with pan spray.

  5. Step 5

    Place the meat in the pan, trying not to overlap meat. Put the meat in the oven. If you are baking steak and want to make it extra tender, you could cover the pan with foil after adding the meat. Poke holes in the foil to release steam.

  6. Step 6

    If you're adding vegetables, let the meat cook for about twenty minutes before adding them to the dish. Some good vegetables to use are onions, bell peppers and mushrooms.

  7. Step 7

    Cook the meat to a desired doneness (steak) or until no it's longer pink (chicken, or pork). If you're using foil remove it for the last fifteen minutes of cook time.Be careful when taking baking pan from oven. Baked meats make juices of their own and these juices could splash and splatter.

Tips & Warnings
  • Remember that cooking times will vary according to the meat used. Some steaks are thicker than others, or you may be cooking chicken breasts instead of wings.
  • These baking tips are basic and would work better with already cut steak, pork and chicken.
  • If you're cooking whole chickens or roasts, steps will not be the same. Whole chickens need to be cleaned, inside and out, and roasts may require a bigger roasting pan.
  • Always wash your hands after handling meat.
  • No small children should use an oven, or chop vegetables without help from an adult.
