So: sq. ft. / length in ft. = width in linear feet.

Tips & Warnings
You cannot directly convert square feet to linear feet without knowing the length of at least one side of the area. So, for example, you cannot convert 200 square feet to linear feet without knowing either the length or width. Linear feet always refers to the length of one side of a given area.
