Halloween is one of those holidays that nearly everyone loves, and part of that is because it's an excuse for us to get dressed up in costumes! Whether you're going with spooky or cute, the key to a good costume is applying good makeup. If you've decided to be a sheet-draped ghost, then the trick is to combine your makeup with the sheet. When you apply ghost makeup, you'll need to take a few things into consideration.

Things You'll Need:

  • Halloween makeup in different colors
  • White base makeup
  • White cosmetic powder
  • Cosmetic sponges
  1. Step 1

Purchase Halloween makeup. Choose white to use as a base, as well as some darker colors. Grays, blacks, blues and greens are perfect for your Halloween ghost makeup.

  2. Step 2

Figure out how big the holes in the sheet are. The easiest way to do this is to put the sheet over your head, and then have a friend mark the outside edges of where the eye holes are. You can also do this yourself by using a mirror. Once you've determined where the sheet's eye holes fall on your face, it's time to start applying your ghost makeup.

  3. Step 3

Apply white makeup around your eyes. Go past the boundaries of the marks, so that when the sheet is back in place, every visible part of skin will have white makeup on it. Apply the makeup evenly, working out from the eyelid, and from just under the eye. Spread it carefully, so you don't end up with makeup in your eyes. Work the makeup into your eyebrows as well. This is easiest to do with a sponge or a small cosmetic pad. Keep applying the white makeup by layers until there is no skin tone visible underneath the white.

  4. Step 4

Use a darker color such as gray or black to accent above the eyelids and below the eye. By smudging the color with your fingertip or a sponge, you'll be able to dab it on and give yourself an ethereal, ghoulish appearance. You can blend colors together as well; adding a bit of green to the gray will give you a nice decomposed look. Add the darker colors gradually, in layers. If you have some blues or purples, you can give yourself a bruised look by applying a bit of makeup over the eyebrows.

  5. Step 5

Add a light dusting of white cosmetic powder over all of the makeup, closing your eyes when you do so. This will keep your eye makeup from looking too shiny or greasy, and will allow it to blend in to the overall appearance through the eye holes in the sheet. Drop the sheet back over your head and check in the mirror to make sure all visible skin is covered. Once you've got the look you want, head out for a night of spook-tacular fun!
