When trying to change your eating habits to the "healthier" side, it is common to feel confused with the wide variety of options available in the market. Take it one step at a time, and try to pick the healthier versions of your all-time favorites. For all of you bagel lovers, here are a few tips that can save your breakfast and your health.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

Keep away from white or refined flours, since they are converted into so-called "bad carbs." Instead, choose whole grains that haven't been processed, meaning they still retain their original nutrients.

  2. Step 2

Take a look at the "Nutrition Facts" section before you make your decision. Remember that sometimes, even though some of the ingredients may be "natural," it doesn't necessarily mean they are healthy. Most dried fruits, like raisins, blueberries and cranberries, contain a high amount of sugar, so watch out for "sweet" bagels.

  3. Step 3

Instead of cream cheese or jelly, have a slice of lean turkey ham or reduced-fat cheese with your favorite bagel. Besides providing you with lots of protein to give you strength throughout the day, it will keep your hunger away until lunch time.

  4. Step 4

Never shop on an empty stomach! Most of the bad decisions in our diet are made before we leave the grocery store, so try to be conscious of what you are buying.
