If you want a boiled egg and you want it now, here's a way to accomplish that. Using a salad sized bowl, fill it with water and then crack an egg into the water. Add just a little bit of oil to the water to prevent the egg from sticking to the bowl.

Put the bowl into the microwave. Depending on how quickly your microwave works, the egg should be hard-boiled in three to five minutes.

Remove the bowl, scoop out the egg using a spoon and you're good to go. Interestingly, even though the egg has been cracked open, it does somewhat resume the shape of a egg hard-boiled in the conventional fashion.

When you have a yearning for tuna or chicken salad in a hurry, you can master this in five minutes flat. While the egg is boiling in the microwave, mix together the remaining contents (tuna or chicken, mayonaise, celery, onions, etc.). When the egg has finished boiling, remove it from the bowl, chop it up and add it to your mixture.
