Instructions

    • 1

Cut squares of silk large enough to cover an egg. Cut squares of white fabric a little bit bigger. Place a raw egg on top of a silk square with the printed side up against the egg. Wrap around the egg and then lay it, seams down, on top of a piece of white fabric.

    • 2

Gather up the edges, like a little dumpling, and secure with a twist tie. Do that with all the eggs. Place them gently in a large enamel or glass pot; fill with water to cover.

    • 3

Add five tablespoons of white vinegar. Bring to a boil; lower heat to a simmer and cook for about 40 minutes.

    • 4

Remove egg packets from water with a strainer or tongs and set aside to cool.

    • 5

Unwrap the packages and let eggs cool.

    • 6

Remove eggs and wipe with a little vegetable oil for a nice sheen.

Tips & Warnings

  • Think about collecting silk now for next year if you don't have any old ties lying around.
