Ground turkey is a less-expensive, healthier alternative to beef in this chili recipe that gets its flavor from three kinds of beans and a medley of spices.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 lb. ground turkey (such as Jennie-O Italian seasoned)
  • 1/2 cup diced onion
  • 1 to 2 tbs. olive oil
  • 1 can white beans
  • 1 can kidney beans
  • 1 can black beans
  • 2 cans Italian-style diced tomatoes (such as Hunts)
  • 1 tsp. each cayenne pepper, chili powder and oregano
  • 1/2 tsp. cumin
  1. Step 1

In large heavy saucepan over medium-high heat, brown turkey and onion in olive oil. There is no need to drain the turkey after browning; there's very little fat in the meat.

  2. Step 2

When meat is no longer pink, add drained beans and tomatoes and mix well.

  3. Step 3

Add seasonings and continue to cook until bubbly.

  4. Step 4

Cover with tight-fitting lid, turn heat to low and simmer for 40 minutes to 1 hour.

  5. Step 5

Taste and adjust seasonings as desired. Serve with cornbread and a salad.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use frozen chopped onions for an even quicker prep time.
  • For variety, use garbanzo or red beans instead of white beans and kidney beans.
