Trying to find the perfect match for your liquid foundation? Your foundation should match your skin tone exactly for a natural, beautiful look. Follow these steps to test your liquid foundation makeup to get the ideal match every time.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Liquid foundations
  • Makeup sponge
  • Mirror and light
  1. Step 1

Go to a makeup store or department store that sells foundation makeup. At the department store, you must ask the beauty consultant for assistance, but at other stores like Sephora, you can test the makeup yourself at their makeup stations throughout the store.

  2. Step 2

Pick two or three foundation colors to test that appear to be close to your skin tone.

  3. Step 3

Dab a little bit of the middle shade of liquid foundation on a clean makeup sponge or cotton swab.

  4. Step 4

Apply the foundation to a small area of your face. Ideally, you should apply a line of color to a clean face onto the base of your jaw.

  5. Step 5

Take a look in the mirror and see if the color blends into your face. The foundation should flawlessly blend in without any visible lines or differences in color.

  6. Step 6

If it’s not a match, repeat the process with another foundation color on a different part of your jaw line. Try different shades and brands until you find the perfect shade and coverage.

Tips & Warnings
  • For a true match, use natural lighting or makeup mirror lights to check your results.
  • Do not test foundation against your hand or arm in case your face is a different shade.
  • You can blend different colors for the perfect match if needed. You know you have the perfect shade when your face matches your neck in natural light.
  • Test a small area of your face at a time to prevent allergic reactions to new products if you have sensitive skin.
  • Keep the liquid foundation tightly closed in a cool, dry area.
  • Avoid infections--never share makeup.
