Need to apply eye shadow? You can have beautiful eye shadow without being a makeup pro. Follow these steps to apply eye shadow for a natural daytime look in minutes.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Eye makeup brush(es)
  • Neutral base powder eye shadow (or face powder)
  • Primer
  • Eye shadow powder
  • Highlighting eye shadow powder in white or light gold
  1. Step 1

Prep the eyelids. Dab a makeup primer product onto the eyelids and delicately blend into lids with your fingers. This step is optional, but it provides long-lasting, noncreasing color.

  2. Step 2

Swirl the eye makeup brush in a neutral-colored eye shadow. If you don't have a neutral eye shadow, you can use face powder. Tap the brush to remove excess powder.

  3. Step 3

Sweep the base color across your entire eyelid area. The base powder will prep your skin for the next eye shadow color. A base color will make the application easier and make the eye shadow color more vibrant and longer-lasting.

  4. Step 4

Using the technique in step 2, apply the main eye shadow color. Apply the eye shadow lightly, starting from the outer upper corner of your eye and following the crease line. Gently brush the color back and forth only at the crease to concentrate more color into the corner of your eyelids.

  5. Step 5

Lightly blend the line of color across each eyelid to get rid of any harsh lines.

  6. Step 6

Using the technique in step 2, apply the highlight eye shadow powder to the area underneath your eyebrow arch. If you don’t have an eye shadow in white or light gold, you can use translucent face powder or unscented baby powder.

  7. Step 7

Take a step back and check your application in the mirror. If the color is not symmetrical, then adjust as needed and blend the color to make both eyelids match.

  8. Step 8

Remove any remnant powder that may have fallen around the eyes with a face powder makeup brush. If you tap the brush before applying, you can prevent this from happening.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use a neutral brown eye shadow for a natural daytime look and a color that works well with most complexions.
  • Never share makeup or makeup brushes. Store your makeup in a cool, dry place.
