Whether you are starting a fight or defending yourself, you need to learn how to punch.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Choose a hand. If you are a righty, hit with that hand, if you are a lefty, use that one. Squeeze your fist tightly and do NOT put your thumb inside your fist as this can lead to a broken digit.

  2. Step 2

Make sure you are close enough to your opponent, but not so close that you can count his pores. Swing with your shoulder to ensure momentum and don't roundhouse punch; this is awkward and leaves you open to being hit. Know where you are swinging; this article assumes you are looking to throw a punch at a face.

  3. Step 3

Try to make contact with the bottom part of your fist just above the knuckle. If you have a ring on, be careful as this can maim your opponent when all you want to do is stun or disable his aggression. When you have made contact, keep pushing through, like a baseball swing.

  4. Step 4

Use the palm of your hand, which has stronger bones than the ones in your fingers, to strike hard upwards into the opponent's chin.

  5. Step 5

If all else fails, run away as fast as possible.

Tips & Warnings
  • The best place to his someone is always the face, as it is the most fragile part and most liable to draw blood. Blood usually makes people retreat.
  • The bones in your fingers are fragile, so don't go punching things including cement walls, computers or the cat.
  • Try not to hit someone in the teeth as this can cut you just as easily as it will hurt your opponent
