How to Get a Skateboard Sponsor
Skateboarding is one of the fastest-growing spectator sports in the United States, but it can be expensive to compete in upper-level events. Securing a sponsor can help offset equipment costs and event entry fees.
Things You'll Need

- Professional photos of yourself in skating gear

1
Have business cards printed. When you meet a potential sponsor, it helps to have contact information handy.
-
2
Visit local businesses. Have copies of your photos and any videos on hand to share with the decision maker. Local businesses are often eager to support home-grown athletes. It makes sense to target local skate shops, but many other skaters target the same places. Don't neglect car dealerships, banks and independently owned small businesses.

-
3
Offer something in return. If you have a website, offer to place a banner ad and link to the business website. You should also offer to wear the logo on your competition clothing. Provide a professional photo for the business to display.
-
4
Stay positive. You may receive several "nos" before you find a sponsor. If someone tells you to come back later, make sure that you do!
-
5
Be willing to accept several small sponsors instead of one large sponsor. Many businesses have limited budgets. Even a $50 sponsorship can help.
-
6
Attend your city's chamber of commerce meeting. Have a presentation prepared. This is a chance to meet many business owners. Make an impression! Businesses like to sponsor people who have done their research.
-
7
Establish a Web presence. Post photos, videos and past competition results. This also gives you a place to publicly thank your sponsors.
