How to Get a Skype Account Set Up

Skype has many features. The basic Skype account will allow you to make calls using your computer to anyone who is a Skype user. This takes about 10 or 15 minutes of time.

Things You'll Need

• Webcam or mic
• Headset or speakers

Instructions

1. Navigate to Skype's download page (skype.com/intl/en/get-skype) and select the desired download option. You can get the standard Windows version, business version, mobile version and other platforms. This will take you to another page where you will be prompted to download Skype.

2. Select "Get Skype for Windows." Then click the "Download Skype" button.

3. If you're prompted to save the file, click the "Save File" button. Skype begins the download. Skypesetup.exe will pop up on your screen. You might need to adjust your cookie setting on you PC so the pop up comes up. You can set it to allow cookies under Internet options (the "Privacy" tab).

4. Select "Save file" and choose where you would like to save the file.

5. Follow the online prompts to finish the installation. You'll need to select a screen name and a password.

6. After the installation has been completed, there will be an icon on your desktop. Click on the icon to open Skype.

Tips & Warnings

• To make calls to landlines and cellphones, you'll need Skype Pro.

• Use a headset with a mic to allow increased privacy and better sound quality than a webcam.
